PAKENHAM students were able to ollie, grind and get some air this week as part of the council’s Streets Ahead program.
Grade 5 and 6 students from Pakenham Hills Primary School and St Patrick’s Primary School were treated to skateboarding lessons that will hopefully help them skate safely and develop their skills.
Students also developed a passion for ‘acid drops’ and ‘monos’, which they can use at the new Pakenham Skate Park.
Cardinia Shire Council’s Active Children’s Officer, Kate Beveridge said consultations with students from Grades 3-6 at the schools indicated they lacked confidence using skateboards.
“They felt lessons would be good for building their confidence and skills and we felt it was a pro-active way to involve children in physical activities,” she said.
“The lessons are also a good way to reinforce safety considerations when skateboarding and enjoyment of all the social aspects of being involved in sport.”
