Lyndhurst won the toss and elected to bat at Lang Lang. Lang Lang got a wicket in the fifth over after Adam Dowson took a superb catch off the bowling of Ross Douglas with the score on 15.
Only 10 runs later, Douglas took his second wicket after accepting a difficult caught and bowled and with the score on 28, Gareth Andrews took a superb catch off the bowling of Rogan Fraser to have Lyndhurst on the back foot at 3/28.
A further 15 runs were added for the fourth wicket that ended when Rogan Fraser took a difficult catch off the bowling of Glenn Easton. Lang Lang strived hard to get the next breakthrough as the partnership between Nutting and Baumgartner looked dangerous.
However, after a 50-run stand, veteran spinner Nic Beale got his first wicket when Baumgartner was caught by Gareth Andrews at gully. He followed up 20 runs later to dismiss Straughair after Fraser took a catch in the deep.
With no addition to the score the opposition lost its seventh wicket with the score on 113 after Nic Beale affected a run-out with a sharp return to ’keeper Hassett and Lang Lang was looking forward to wrapping up the opposition innings.
Some stubborn resistance was shown by the eighth wicket, but was ended after Nic Beale, who was showing surprising agility in the field, got yet another run-out to dismiss the Lyndhurst skipper for a well-compiled 51.
Rogan Fraser got his second wicket to dismiss the next batsman after Adam Dowson took a good catch with the score on 138. With no addition to the score the Lyndhurst innings was ended when Fraser cartwheeled the stumps of Clifford.
The innings started at a brisk rate with the openers Hassett and Caddell scoring at four runs an over.
However with the score on 22, Straughair bowled Caddell for eight and a partnership of 36 ensued for the second wicket that ended when Brian Christensen was caught in the deep for 22.
Rogan Fraser joined Hassett at the crease and these two set about getting a winning score for the Swamp Tigers, constantly making runs at sometimes more than four an over. With the score on 124 the 66-run partnership was ended when Fraser was clean bowled for a well-compiled 37 and only four runs later Glenn Easton was dismissed for one.
Hassett scored his first half century for the year with a well-timed cut shot that sped to the boundary, but was dismissed for 53 to have Lang Lang 5/138.
Only eight runs later the disappointing Douglas was back in the pavilion after making only six and Greg McMillan joined him soon after without scoring.
Lang Lang did not lose another wicket for the day with the two veterans Nic Beale and Gareth Andrews being not-out five and 10 respectively to see Lang Lang make 7/160 off its allotted 45 overs.
