Nestle sold

NESTLE Pakenham is no longer.
Workers were told yesterday the international food giant was walking away from the Bald Hill Road site, which would now be known as Gippsland Food Company, owned by American company Simplot.
Since 1995 Simplot has acquired some of Australia’s most best-known food brand businesses including Edgell, Chiko, Birds Eye, Harvest, Plumrose, and Leggos.
The Nestle plant has been in Pakenham since 1960 and is one of the town’s major employers. Some employees have been there for over 25 years.
A spokesperson for Nestle said no jobs would be lost as part of the change and Simplot would take over the licence for Nestle’s Lean Cuisine and Maggi frozen brand products. The change over is expected to take place on 30 November.
