Moderate decline across the board

AROUND 70 less head were on offer for the fat cattle sale on Wednesday at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, and with demand not yet on the upward grade all categories recorded a slight to moderate decline in averages. Sixty two bullocks sold well taking the above mentioned demand into consideration, to range from 132 to 158 cents, easing four cents.
One hundred and sixty nine heifers saw the light quality pens sell to easier demand, with heavy heifers selling from 68.6 to 166.2 and light 68.6 to 124 cents, also four cents back on last sale.
Forty one steers penned also saw the weaker demand take the cream off, but still sold to reasonable demand ranging from 118.6 to 182 cents.
One hundred and eighty one vealers were the value holders on the day, managing to retain all but one cent of last week’s average.
Heavy veal ranged from 100 to 193.2 cents and the light veal made from 113.6 to 188.2.
Lighter weights and less beef type cows on Thursday saw prices remain firm in comparison to last sale. Heaviest cows with good coverage sold to reasonable demand considering the top was easier this week.
Lighter cows would be said to have sold to stronger demand as the average for the yarding was only two cents lighter.
Prices for cows ranged from 71.6 to 133 cents.
Seventeen bulls sold to rates equal to last Thursday with no change in the average, but the top did manage to rise nine cents to 160 this week.
Bulls ranged in price from 110 to 160 cents.
