Rotarians’ close shave

FUNDRAISING for Movember kicked off at the Rotary Club of Berwick last week with three members shaving off their prized moustaches for the cause.
Rotarians Mick Morland, Sjaak Kusters and Terry Carmichael had their mo removed at Thursday night’s meeting with the help of club members and Berwick hairdresser Paul Fletcher.
Movember is an annual, month-long celebration of the moustache, highlighting men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer and depression. Mr Morland said he had his moustache for 41 years, while Mr Kusters had his for about 40.
“Tonight will be the first time I drive without a moustache,” Mr Morland said.
The club raised $1200 on the night for Movember. President John Rosenthal said the club ended up with what seemed like three new members, as a result of their changed appearances.
New moustaches are also being grown for the cause by other Rotarians, including Garry Cooper, Mike Hildred, Mark Caulfield, Alf Giessen, Tim Moore, Murray Newby and Malcolm Kennedy.
