Schools in a sea of cash

ST MICHAEL’S Primary School, Berwick and Emerald Secondary College will receive Federal Government funding as part of the Smarter Schools National Partnerships that will address schools disadvantaged by low socio-economic status as well as focus on numeracy and literacy.
Some 494 Victorian schools will participate in the National Partnership for Literacy and Numeracy and for the Low Socio-Economic Status School Communities. A National Partnership for Improving Teacher Quality will also be introduced.
Victorian schools will receive up to $478 million in Federal Government funding through these three partnerships, with the State Government contributing an equal amount.
Senator for Victoria, Jacinta Collins, said the schools involved in these partnerships will have access to funding to address educational disadvantage associated with low socio-economic status and to improve the literacy and numeracy outcomes for all children, particularly those at risk of falling behind.
The partnerships will also address teacher quality, with coaching support and professional learning programs to be introduced for new and existing principals.
Schools from the federal electorate of La Trobe also participating in the National Partnerships are Boronia Heights Primary School, Kambrya College Berwick, Upwey South Primary School and Belgrave Heights Primary School.
