MELBOURNE’S south east has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and as people take to the water, it is essential to place safety as the first priority.
During the summer months there is nothing more pleasurable for adults and children than to take a dip in a nice, cool swimming pool or spending the day at the beach.
Eastern Region MP Inga Peulich said record temperatures for the month of November could mean that swimmers could flock to the beaches and local pools.
“I urge those cooling off in the summer swelter to follow some straightforward water safety measures,” she said.
To keep safe in the water, measures such as learning how to swim, swimming in pairs and swimming between the flags in lifeguard supervised areas, is recommended.
Children should never be left unattended around water and should always wear an approved personal flotation device, as should inexperienced swimmers.
Lastly, avoid swimming when under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
