Salvos need Christmas support

THE Salvation Army will assist more than 300,000 people this Christmas following a year of unprecedented natural disasters and the economic downturn.
Salvation Army major Gary Masters said that at Christmas time, more than any other time of year, people turned to The Salvation Army for help.
“This year has proven to be one of economic hardship, and a new group, who have never needed to ask for assistance before, emerged in the past 12 months,” he said.
“2009 has also been a year of unprecedented natural disasters with bushfires and floods affecting many people across Australia.”
The Salvation Army this Christmas, with enormous support from thousands of Australians, will provide more than $10 million worth of food vouchers, hampers and toys, Christmas lunch to more than 8000 people and 9000 beds for those who are either homeless, in crisis, or in aged care and rehabilitation services.
This Christmas help other members of the community – whether lonely, struggling to make ends meet or affected by natural disasters – by supporting The Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal.
