Cobra Morrow bites the bats

MERINDA Park’s Darren Morrow helped his team to a solid win, snaring five wickets against Clyde in the Agrade game on Saturday.
Defending 176 away against a strong Clyde outfit was always going to take a special effort.
After 15 runs were added to the overnight score of 8 Morrow struck removing Denton for a duck with Rick Dennerley taking the catch.
He then took the wicket of Brian Zerbst sparking a collapse that saw the Cougars lose 6/36.
Noel O’Brien and Bryan Guthrie added 67 for the ninth wicket before O’Brien was trapped in front by Gary Davidson for 60.
Clyde was dismissed for 152 falling 24 runs short.
Morrow took 5/46 with good support from Lucas Hoogenboom 3/60 and Gary Davidson 2/2.

Chasing 114 and being 0/7 at stumps on day one against Beaconsfield, Merinda Park had a great chance to win at home.
Captain Marty Donaldson was the only one to show any resistance with his 15 being the highpoint as the Cobras were dismissed for 50.
Being asked to bat again Merinda Park could manage only 62 losing outright by an innings and two runs.

Defending 245 against Catani, the Cobras needed to lift their bowling.
Nic Reed removed Catani’s top three with 40 on the board and when John Cuthbertson claimed Donohue for 32 the Cobras were on top with 4/63.
Cuthbertson, Brendan Fairlam and Andy Martin all got wickets and Catani was dismissed for 106.
This was a top bowling performance from Reed (3/12), Cuthbertson (3/17) Fairlam (2/25) and Martin (2/0) that saw the Cobras first win of the year.

The Cobras were defending 174 against Nar Nar Goon on the smallish Lyndhurst Secondary College oval.
Peter Shore in a devastating spell of swing and seam bowling did the job with 6/16 off seven overs.
With Nathan Beaver and James LaughlinGlen taking the remaining wickets the Goon was dismissed for 94 giving Merinda Park victory by 79 runs.

The Cobras were chasing 84 set by Tooradin and were 2/36 at stumps on day one
Captain Tim Inglis and vicecaptain Paul Humphrey opened.
The winning run came in the 38th over and also brought up the skipper’s 50 that yielded three sixes and three fours. He was out for 53 with the score on 89.
The Cobras won by 158 runs.

After winning the toss against Cranbourne Meadows and batting Merinda Park put on 31 for the first wicket before Craig Glassborrow was out for 11.
John Quieros retired on 50 and when Matt Harper was out for a duck the score was 2/69.
Captain Phil Keirnan was dismissed for seven with the score on 83 and Jeff Gillespie 21 to make the score 4/145.
Dave Field hit 50 including one six and seven fours while Jace Field (34) and Matt Cuthbertson (41) took the score to 4/233 off 35 overs.
Quieros and Robbie Clarke opened the bowling for the Cobras and the latter struck with his second ball to have Cranbourne Meadows at 1/2 and finished its 35 overs 5/139.
Wickets went to Dave Field (1/8), Robbie Clarke (1/14), John Quieros (1/17), Ben Pobjie (1/22) and Jeff Gillespie (1/24).

After being sent in to bat by Clyde the Cobras got off to a shaky start losing Rodney Reed for a duck in the third over.
Brent Vowells and James LaughlinGlen took the score to 6/103 before a 31run partnership between James and Trent Vondelling took the total to 134.
Vondelling was out for seven and LaughlinGlen 32 with the score at 142.
Merinda Park set a formidable 143 and captain Dustin Peebles starred with 51 not out.

Devon Meadows won the toss and batted with Anthony Burr taking a wicket with the first ball.
He and Jarrod Armitage then proceeded to tear through the Panthers top order leaving them reeling at 4/8 off seven overs.
Devon Meadows was dismissed for 68 with Anthony Burr (3/11), Jarrod Armitage (1/10), Marcus Beaver (1/12), Matt Pongacic (2/2), Matt Baker (2/12) and Shaun Tidball (1/0).
Merinda Park is 3/46 at stumps.

After being asked to field by Clyde, Merinda Park had to toil hard for wickets.
Andy Hook made the breakthrough with his first ball to have the score 1/26.
The next pair put on 54 to have Clyde 2/80 when Jazeel Ajireen struck and a middle order collapse saw the score go to 7/104.
Clyde finished 9/154 with Madouska Sirawardena (2/14), Andy Hook and Tim Shepherdson (2/20), Jazeel Ajireen (2/22) and Glen Salter (1/8).

With Clyde winning the toss and batting first the Reds started slowly waiting until the 10th over for the first wicket.
The bowlers kept the Cougars to 8/125 with seven individual wicket takers being Chase Allan, Dylan Cuthbertson, Udesha Kalpuge, Reed Allan, Ramith Satherasinghe, Robert Reed and Kyle Salter.

Batting against KilcundaBass wickets fell before Ryan Little (16) and Liam Howell (29) fought back.
Other good performances were Caleb Boswell with four in a 30ball innings and Aaron Little five.
