Lighter stores hit new levels

VEALER sales at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, last week saw a rise of 1.5 cents to average 216.1 cents, with processor veal making to 240.2 cents, and lighter stores breaking new ground with a top price of 300.6 cents per kilo.
A smaller yarding overall saw around 66 per cent in the vealer sector, quality was noticeable with only a very small percentage lacking, restockers were stronger this week with prices held up as demand continues in the processor end of the market.
Ninety bullocks rose six cents to 189.6 cents, again making to 200 cents.
Thirty seven lighter heifers jumped to 190.6 cents, 13 cents up on last sale, reaching prices of 215.2 cents.
And 75 steers remained steady rising one cent to 195.7 cents and making to 216 cents.
Thursday saw bulls rise six cents on average to 165.7 cents, with the top price this week 183 cents.
Only 10 bullocks were penned and they made a four cent rise on average to 182.1 cents, ranging from 177 cents to 186.6 cents.
Three hundred and ninety two cows were offered and demand rose slightly lifting the average to 149.1 cents.
This was four cents better than last week, and the top for this week was 190 cents.
The draw for Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 February is as follows: 1, Scotts; 2, Gibbon; 3, Elders; 4, Landmark; 5, SEJ.
