Brisk buying on smaller yard

A SMALLER yarding of 556 head greeted buyers last Wednesday at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, and competition was brisk.
Overall condition was slightly easier in some categories, with the top end being the exception.
Three hundred and fifty eight vealers offered this week again saw very good improvement in value, rising three cents to 219.3 cents on average, with processor veal making to 245 cents per kilo and restockers paying to 317.2 cents for lighter weight calves and pen lots of open auction store calves selling to a price equalling 408 cents per kilogram.
Fifty five bullocks were sold and managed a slight drop in average slipping two cents to 187.2 cents but the heavier weights and higher constant top prices lifted the per head price by $30 to $1216. This week’s top was 211.6 cents.
Forty heifers showed best improvement with restockers helping the average rise eight cents to 198.1 cents, paying to 215 cents.
