Weather sinks fishing comp

PAKENHAM Angling Club’s scheduled outing on Western Port on Sunday 20 February was cancelled – due to strong winds.
There will be another day, and, hopefully, the whiting will have grown.
The club registered to participate in the Dargo Carpathon on 26 and 27 February. The event was organised by the Dargo and District Landcare group, with businesses from Bairnsdale and surrounding areas sponsoring the $5000 in prizes.
Members were keen to assist with the eradication of this pest, the carp, from our waterways.
However, due to heavy rains upstream earlier in the month, the Wonnangatta and Crooked Rivers were fast-flowing and not ideal for carp catching.
The weather was beautiful on the Saturday, but heavy rain spoiled the presentations on the Sunday.
A total of 11 big carp were captured, with the heaviest weighing 6.2kg. Pakenham anglers enjoyed a great weekend and managed to win several prizes.
The club won $100 for being the club with the most entrants. Six-month-old Scarlett Rees was awarded a prize for being the youngest entrant, while Ken Robertson was the most enthusiastic angler and Carole Clark won the early bird entry.
