Stirzaker steals A grade

DEAN O’Brien and Paul Van Venrooy scored 50 points to take out the Anthony Bambridge 4BBB event at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.
More than 120 players enjoyed excellent conditions and some big scores were returned.
Runners-up were Alec Blackie and Andrew Demos (48), on a countback from Warren Cook and Darryl Brain and also Barry Cunningham and Paul Matthews.
Balls down the line went to 47.
Nearest to pins were won by Phil Dignan (14th), Steve Mallon (17th), Stuart Kendall (19th) and Paul Matthews (23rd).
A field of more than 100 players teed off for the midweek stableford round last Wednesday.
Michael Barry (26) was the star, winning C Grade with a massive 46 points.
The C grade runner up was Benny Wyatt, also with a great round of 44 points.
Brendan Thomas (43) was next, followed by Mick Hanley on 41.
Geoff Hewson (15) took out B Grade with an impressive 42 points from Doug Law 41.
Alec Blackie also finished with 41 with Angus McArthur finishing with 40.
Jason Stirzaker (12) won A Grade with a handicap reducing round of 42.
Jayden Doyle was runner-up with 39, on a countback from Rick Schenck.
Simon Appleby was next in A Grade on 38. Balls down the line went to 38 on a countback.
Saturday sees the first round of the club championships – and it’s also the April monthly medal.
