Heavier weights have little effect

VEALER prices at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, last Wednesday saw an increase of 10 cents per kilogram for the top price to 271.6 cents for processor quality, with stores making to 320.6 cents.
Fifty extra veal were offered with the lighter stores selling to very strong demand, the average weight was lighter and this eased the per head price by $50 to $803, but the average cents per kilogram rose seven cents to 245.8 cents.
One hundred and twenty nine bullocks yarded saw marginally heavier weights.
This had little effect on the average which remained steady at 200 cents, although the top was easier at 217 cents.
Fifty-nine heifers did slip slightly, easing six cents to 202.6 cents. Quality was lighter with the top making to 226.6 cents. One hundred and twenty eight steers also lighter contained pen lots of stores as well.
Quality had minor effect on value with the average three cents back at 206.9 cents, and a top of 230 cents.
Both cows and bulls rose four cents on average at the Thursday market.
Thirty-seven bulls made to 193.6 cents to average 171.2 cents and lifted the per head price by $68 to $1205.
Four hundred and four cows gained $33 per head to $874, and the average was four cents better at 159.1 cents to top at 190 cents.
Twelve slightly lighter bullocks eased four cents to 191 cents with a top price three cents easier at 200 cents. The draw for Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 March is as follows: 1, Elders; 2, Landmark; 3, Gibbon; 4, Scotts; 5, SEJ.
