NARRE Warren North’s Kalora Park ground turned into a circus on Saturday, as the Brendan Fevola show came to town.
The dual Coleman medallist lined up with reigning Casey Cardinia premiers Narre Warren in their practice match against Eastern League premiers Noble Park.
Fevola, lining up at full-forward, kicked two goals in the opening five minutes, but rarely held the ball after that.
But he remained the focus of the massive crowd that followed him from end to end – as did the Noble Park players.
Fevola was involved in numerous scrapes and with minutes remaining he and his opponent were yellow-carded and sent from the field.
“It was physical, without being over the top,” Magpies coach Chris Toner said.
“There were a couple of skirmishes, but nothing untoward. I thought our boys handled it exceptionally well.”
Noble Park won the game, 13.8 (86) to 10.6 (66).
“To be honest, Noble Park’s probably the best team in Victoria,” Toner said.
“They don’t get beaten too often. To be in front by nine points at three-quarter-time, we probably should have won.”
The challenge for Toner will be to play both Fevola and gun forward Brett Evans together.
“(Fevola) will play Round One (16 April) and he may sneak in for Round Three (Narre Warren has the bye in Round two), but we’ll have to wait and see,” Toner said.
“To have them (Fevola and Evans) in the same forward line is going to be good.”
Michael Collins, Nick Scanlon, Josh Tonna and Glenn Hamilton impressed for the Magpies.
In other practice matches, Tooradin succumbed to Karingal by four goals and Keysborough lost to Gembrook by 19 points.
Beaconsfield played Sorrento and Berwick played Waverley.
