Kids plan their escape

LOCAL schools are participating in a CFA program to ensure all Grade 3/4 students have a home fire escape plan.
Schools including Nar Nar Goon Primary, Bayles Regional Primary, Beaconhills Primary, Lang Lang Primary and Garfield Primary were addressed by local CFA and given plans for the pupils to complete.
The plans will be a project in term two for the pupils and each student who completes their escape plan will receive a certificate and the school that finishes first will also receive a prize.
The CFA Cardinia Community Safety Team said every family needed a home fire escape plan.
“Every person in the house needs to be aware of the plan, and preferably involved in the plan’s preparation, so they know what to do in the event of a house fire,” they said.
Everybody in the house should know two ways out of each room, and the pre-arranged meeting spot outside the home, which could be the letterbox, a light post or a neighbour’s house.
The escape plan should take into account people in the house who have special needs, such as a baby, young children and older people.
