Leon cooks up bigger lead

FIRST round leader Leon Cook extended his lead by three shots in the second round of the club championships at Drouin on Saturday.
Cook posted a second round of 76 to follow his first-round 74.
His 150 leads A Grade from Danny Shine 75, 79 (154), Harry Matthews 79, 76 (155), Shane Dwyer 81, 78 (159), Nick Rowe 80, 80 (160).
B Grade leaders are Mick Lithgow 87, 78 ( 165), Rob Piner 82, 88 ( 170), John Piner 82, 88 (170), Rick Shenck 89, 82 ( 171) and Paul Duivenvoorden 76, 95 (171).
C Grade: Glen Mallon 92, 86 (178), Mike Hall 89, 93 ( 182), Graham Rawson 86, 96 (182) and Stuart WIlliams 95, 88 (183).
D Grade: Barry Dyson 94, 94 (188), John Robbins 100, 95 (195), Sean Kelly 94, 101 (195) and Neil Linklater 97, 98 ( 195).

Saturday’s stroke play drew 116 players and A Grade winner was Mick Lithgow (11) 67 from Harry Matthews with 70 on a countback from Wayne Robbins.
B Grade went to Glenn Mallon with 67 from Stuart Williams on 69. C Grade winner was Gerry Engelstad with 68 from John Robbins on a countback.
Balls down the line went to 72 on a countback. Nearest to pins: Roy Hansen (second), Rob Piner (fifth and pro pin) and Mick Lithgow (14th).
Wednesday’s comp saw 105 players. A Grade went to Simon Appleby 37 from Stephen Bethune on a countback.
B Grade winner was Gordon Warren (17) 39. Runner-up was Max Corby with 38 on a count back from Dean O’Brien and Peter Lubberink, both with 38. C Grade went to Neil Linklater (25) 42 over Merv Peel on 40.
Balls down the line went to 36 points. Nearest to pins: Neil Linklater (14th), Rod Hammond (17th), Jim McCormack (19th) and Paul Davie (23rd, pro pin).
