Nyora fires up for Big Banger V8 action

By Brett Swanson
BIG Banger V8 Super Sedans will contest the much sought after Bob Hickson Memorial at Nyora Speedway on Saturday night.
Leading the chase will be Traralgon’s former multi national and state champion Michael Nicola, who will also be gunning for his third feature win in as many weeks and his second straight Hickson Memorial.
Nicola will be under big pressure from dual and defending Victoria series champion and Memorial podium-getter James Petch, who has a few laps around the tight layout under his belt.
Bendigo’s Brad Wicks is an under funded star who is always fast in his Ford and with a bit of luck, the former Victorian Standard Saloon Junior Champ could take home the big prize.
Craig Lappin won the opening round of the Mornington Motors Championship and is the current series points’ leader and as this also doubles as round three of the series, Lappin will be looking to further extend his lead with another feature win.
The unique division two Hot Rods will be back for their second consecutive race at Nyora.
Andrew Galley, Toby Callanan, Ricky Mills and Rob Tatterson will be going all out to stop the run of wins from current Victorian champion Daryl Logue who will be stepping up to the Modified Production Sedans next season.
The Wingless Sprints put on a non-stop cracker of a race last time they raced here and Dan Dubois, a man with strong local ties, took his second straight victory and will be looking for a “threepeat” in the Victory Lane Race Gear Gippsland Challenge.
Drouin’s Dayne Bentvelzen however, will have something to say having tasted a feature race victory in his rookie season.
ASCF Junior Sedans will be contesting the NASR Grass Roots Racing Invitational.
This event is designed to give the skid kids that either don’t have the experience or who don’t normally run at the front of the pack an opportunity to race against their peers.
Each driver will also receive a tool box with tools to help with their cars maintenance. Donald Young will be trying to uphold local honour after recovering from recent surgery while Luke Galley and Brody Norton will take on Lachlan Reeves, Chevey Edwards, Michael Skene, Brendan Miller, Shane Younger and Matt Nelson.
Completing the picture will be the Melbourne Mini-Sprints with recent Victorian Champion Ryan McKenna keen to avenge his last start defeat here.
Jason Andreatta, Steve Trewin and Stuart Ferguson all know their way to victory circle and will be pushing hard as will Jason Lynn, Owen Milton, Kevin Bomford, Dean Parsons, Amy Phillips and Dave Schickert.
Track action starts at 5.30pm.
