The event, which was organised by John McGreal from the St Michael’s Parish Berwick, saw about 70 people turn up to try the wines from Unwine Berwick.
Mr McGreal is the owner of Workshop Hairdressing and his customers, along with members of the parish turned up at the event.
Kimbe is the capital city of West New Britain, a province in Papua New Guinea.
The Kimbe Assistance Project was first started by ex-Papua New Guinea residents Adrian and Barbara Corkeron after they heard conditions in the country had not changed since they left 43 years ago.
“We decided to seek funding to send up medical and educational items,” Mrs Corkeron said.
“Twelve months ago we sent our first shipment. The next shipment will be up there on 2 June and has 950 boxes in the container plus school desks, sporting items, school stationery items and library books.”
So far more than $20,000 has been raised since the charity first started in 2008.
Mrs Corkeron said the wine night went very well.
“We had a raffle also, for a television set, which was run by Michael O’Shea in Berwick,” she said.
“With the raffle and the wine night, we raised about $4000 all up.”
