SFX

SENIORS
Playing the first home game for the year and coming off a victory in round one, SFX was keen to continue its good form against Chadstone.
In front of a large home crowd the boys were slow out of the blocks and despite outplaying their opponents were wasteful in front of goal. The boys weren’t working as a team and as a result went into the first break with only a two-goal lead. A spray from coach Van Dam seemed to click the team into gear in the second quarter. Dimakopoulos and Flash Burns were getting on top in the midfield providing plenty of ball to Spencer and Scott down forward. Andrews, Day and Simon Van Dam were providing some great grunt work in the middle which consistently gave the X-men first use of the ball.
An 11-goal second quarter put the game out of Chadstone’s reach, but to the boys’ credit they didn’t take their foot off the gas and blew away their opponents with a 25-goal second half. Spencer went on to kick a club-record 13 goals in a masterful display while Scott added 6 with Dimma 5 and Ranger 4. The boys demonstrated a real all-round team effort, which is sure to inject some confidence into the team.
SFX 38.19 (247) d Chadstone 2.3 (15).
Goals: B. Spencer 13, D. Scott 6, Dimma 5, Ranger 4, L. Day 2, Dappers 2, L. Andrews 2, Finck 1, N. Howard 1, M. Hamill 1, Burns 1.
Best: Spencer, Dimma, Burns, Scott, Andrews, Bageja.
RESERVES
SFX hosted Chadstone at home on Saturday and the reserves were looking to get their second win on the board.
With 11 changes from last week, it was really going to test the depth of the team. In the first quarter the X-men kicked 5.7, but still made some fundamental errors. At the first break coach Bourke let the young X-men know what was required from them. From then on the X-men kicked 30.24 and Chadstone had no response. Kinder had a brilliant game and was rewarded with best on ground. He kicked six goals, had 40 touches and provided a dominant display. Klaric and Furlong also chipped in with five goals each. The sensational result really capped off captain Leigh Hall’s 50th game for the club.
