Narre winner of top towns competition

NARRE Warren was the winner of the Top Towns tournament at the Garfield Golf Club.
A team of four play an individual round of stableford with the best three scores added together for a combined score.
Narre Warren won with 119 points. Bill Low and Arti Koopman had 40 points each, Gerry Vandenessen 39 points and Trevor Marsham a respectable 33 points with some encouragement and tips from his fellow team members.
The Top Towns team event has been running for 30 years.
The individual winners were Glenn Laity (11) in A Grade with 39 points, Richard Perry (16) in B Grade with 41 and Mark Cousin (24) in C Grade with 42.
Nearest the pins were James Grant (fourth), Jackson Wade (eighth), Wally Poulter (ninth), Geoff Turner (11th), Paul Kaye (14th) and Rex Turner (16th). The second shot on the fifth was Mick Mathews and the seventh was Paul Kaye.
Down the lines were won by Russel Meehan and George Vitiritti 42, Paul Govaars, Malcolm Hirt, Arti Koopman, Peter Vanderhorst, Wally Poulter, Rob Calderara and Bill Low all with 40.
The women’s winner with 38 points was Meredith Bowers off a handicap of 26 and the meat raffle was won by James Grant.
The Thursday competition was won by Peter Frederenko (28) with 42 points from George Gray (29) with 40. Down the lines went to John Scale, Peter Vanderhorst and C. Bell all with 39.
Nearest the pins were R. Edwards (fourth and eighth), P. Skinner (ninth), George Gray (11th) , Ray Johnson (14th) and David Thorp (16th). The super 9 was Peter Frederenko with 25 points.
The pennant teams both had a win on Sunday with division two up 5/4 and division three up 6/3.
Next week’s event is a par round.
