Fresh blood for Yakkerboo

YAKKERBOO needs to live on.
Councillor Graeme Moore has called for a public meeting to be held at Pakenham’s Living and Learning Centre on 18 May to discuss ideas and ways to keep the festival fresh and new.
After 35 years of the iconic festival, Cr Moore is encouraging all residents to come and get involved.
“We want to see it progress and we see it as a young person’s festival,” he said.
“What we want is for the younger generation to take it to the next level.”
The Yakkerboo festival has now started a Facebook group where residents can be informed on meetings and events and as well, the official website has received an upgrade.
“Looking towards the future, we’re revamping our media approach to the festival so we can progress with the times,” Cr Moore said. “We don’t want to change the history of it, it just needs improvement.”
Cr Moore said Mr Yakkerboo was showing signs of deterioration and now needed re-painting and a patch job on the fibreglass frame, something that will be discussed at next week’s meeting.
“We need new ideas to bring to the table, we need more sponsors and definitely need to patch up Mr Yakkerboo,” he said.
“What we want to know from residents is what they want out of the festival.”
The Yakkerboo Festival meeting will start from 7.30 pm sharp on Wednesday 18 May at the Living and Learning Centre in Pakenham.
