THE Tambo, Nicholson and Mitchell rivers lured 21 members, including two juniors, from the Pakenham Angling Club last weekend.
Weather conditions were perfect for fishing, even though the mornings were a little frosty and some found it hard to leave their warm beds.
Worse still, someone must have warned the bream the Pakenham anglers were on their way. Why? Well, only 10 fish were weighed in over one and a half days.
Various baits were used to tempt those elusive fish – prawn, spider crab, bloodworm and even soft plastic lures, but with limited success.
Members enjoyed a Saturday night barbecue at the caravan park and the proprietors donated a prize – two nights accommodation “on the house”.
Jason Blackwood finished the weekend with a smile.
Winners of the Saturday competition were Clive Blackwood (heaviest bream), Bill Senecko (second heaviest), while the secret weight was won by Stan Blackwood. On Sunday, the heaviest bream went to Stan Blackwood, with Michael Houlihan having the second heaviest.
The next meeting of the Pakenham Angling Club will be at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 18 May at the Senior Citizens’ rooms, James St, Pakenham.
Interested anglers are welcome. Contact Jason on 5997 1989 for further information.
