IT was a night to remember, and one Berwick ladies won’t forget in a hurry.
The Doin’ it for Dee fund-raiser was a big success all round, raising nearly $20,000 for breast cancer sufferer Dee Sutherland.
At least 150 ladies came along to the event on Friday night, and were impressed by the delicious finger food, the silent auction and the great company.
The band Mojo Jacket entertained and were even auctioned off to sing at a 40th for one of the ladies.
“Everyone danced and boogied the night away, it was such fun,” said Karen Clements, who organised the event.
Dee Sutherland has been fighting breast cancer for nine years. The chemotherapy that she needs is not available in Australia.
The treatment has to be bought from the UK, at a cost of $36,000. With two children at primary school age, the Berwick family needed a helping hand to raise money for the treatment.
Karen’s boutique, Cosmo Couture, will be having a sale to raise even more funds for Dee. All proceeds from sales of clothing will go towards Dee’s chemotherapy.
“Don’t forget to come along to Cosmo Couture, where all the clothes in the boutique will be on sale, marked off by 20 per cent to 50 per cent. This will include everything in store and all proceeds will go towards Dee’s treatment,” Karen says.
Rose Pintaudi, owner of Autumn Rose boutique, was happy to help out. Bags and shoes from her boutique in Blackburne Square appeared in the fashion show, and Rose was also excited to walk away with the major prize in the raffle. “I won the weekend away at Paynseville. It’s a house right on the jetty so it will be beautiful. I’m taking the girls for a big girls weekend which will be a lot of fun!” she said.
Rose went along to the fund-raiser, and was impressed at how well it came together.
“There were such great prizes and it was clear that so much effort had gone into it. It was a huge success.”
Karen wanted to thank everyone who helped bring the night together. It was an impressive feat, considering Karen and friend Jodie Radings only came up with the idea a month ago.
“There’s so many people to thank for putting it together. But Jo put together the silent auction, Ross and Leoni took care of the catering, and Jodie hosted the night. It was a huge effort for everyone involved,” she said.
Anyone wanting to support Dee’s cause should visit Cosmo Couture, at 46-48 Intrepid Street in Berwick, where the sale is on now. The website for the boutique is www.cosmocouture.com
