A FORECAST of rain scared many prospective golfers away from hitting off in the 4BBB stableford at Drouin.
In the end, a small field of 28 pairs contested the event on the old course, where play has been held during the recent wet period.
The winners with 46 points were Paul Thaw (4) and Sean Kelly (24).
Paul Matthews and Eric Robbins were runners-up with 45 on a countback from Damian and Jayden Bibby. Another family combination of Leon and Warren Cook were next on 45.
Nearest-to-pins: Dean Robbins (fifth) and Gavan Feaver (eighth).
@BT Sub Sport Gaz:WEDNESDAY
Another cloudy and rain threatening day reduced the field to just 44 players for Wednesday’s stableford.
There was only one grade and the winner (his third comp win in a row) was David Leach (22), with 40 points.
Runner-up with the good return of 39 points was Rod Gardner.
Whether it’s on the MCG or at his home golf club of Drouin, Dale ‘Daisy’ Thomas is enjoying great form all round.
Daisy dropped his handicap to 15 after a round of 38 points. Gordon Warren and John Wolswinkel were next, both on 37, followed by Bill McGinness 36.
Meanwhile, Drouin’s Division One pennant team have qualified for the final on Sunday, against Morwell at Moe. Tee off is at 110am.
Members are urged to go and support the fellas as they attempt to win Drouin’s first men’s pennant in many years.
And players who rely on carts to play at Drouin are reminded to ring the Pro Shop to see if they are permitted on course – during the wet conditions it is likely a ban will be in force.
