Neighbours stuck in mud

By Justin Robertson
THERE’S only one way in.
Jill Anderson can’t get into her driveway and has been parking her car at her neighbour’s house.
To get home, she then jumps the fence. It’s her only way into her house.
The mud is so thick along a section of Doran Road only a four wheel drive vehicle can make its way through the sludge because of its thick wheels.
There have been times where her car has been bogged and once her car completely “bottomed” out.
For the Bunyip resident, it’s been an irritating winter.
“We’re paying the same amount of rates, if not more, probably than the other people on Doran road,” she said.
“These things are all meant to come under paying your rates. It’s frustrating.”
Cardinia Shire communications officer, Andrea Bortolin, said Doran Road was inspected once every 12 weeks.
“If defects are identified and the road is placed onto a maintenance program for grading,” she said.
For the past three years living at her Doran Road address, Ms Anderson said she was disappointed by the council’s lack of road maintenance.
“Council came and threw some clay down once, but that did nothing. The next time it rained the road turned to mush,” she said.
“The other half of Doran Road gets graded and stone put down.
“There are four houses along this stretch and our section of the road has never gets maintained like it should.”
The shire made a visit to Doran Road last Saturday morning to lay down dirt, but Ms Anderson said it’s only a matter of time before it turns into mud.
“If we get another downpour of rain, we’ll have the same problem,” she said.
“It just needs to up kept the same as the rest of Doran Road.
“If it was all done at the same time what’s happening now wouldn’t be happening.”
