EIGHT pairs remain in the Winter Cup matchplay after the first round at Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Club on Saturday.
The second round is this Saturday when Aaron Couper and Mark Henderson will play Dennis Crowley and Adrian Dearden, Wayne Johnson and Darren Sidebottom meet Ray Robertson and David Coates, Jordan Denereaz and Luke Whitworth play Wayne Hassall and David Brook and Craig Perkins and Alec Greig come face to face with Roy Solomon and Ron Gracie.
The winners in each grade of Saturday’s stableford have qualified for the PDGA 2011 stableford championship at Eagle Ridge on Sunday 18 September. They are Malcolm Chambers (10), who won A Grade with 39 points, Tyson Rattle (17), who won B Grade with 43, and Andrew Lafferty (23) who won C Grade with 46.
Phil Read scored a hole in one on the 15th hole on Saturday.
Sunday’s stroke competition was won by Matt Rennison (7) with a nett score of 63, ahead of runner-up Brandon Holt (33) with 68 nett on a countback.
Chris Larwood (20) won Tuesday’s stableford with 42 points, beating John Ackaoui (7) with 39 on a countback.
Jenny Chandler and Marilyn Ford, Ros Harding and Suzanne Harvie, Jean Wheatley and Robin Lafferty and Heather Hamilton and Rosalie Leake have made it through to the semi-finals of the women’s Winter Cup.
Jan Smith (39) was the winner of the daily competition with 28 points. Jean Wheatley won the A Grade pro pin and Lida Patak won the B Grade.
Thursday’s par competition went to A Grade player Steve Mancer (13) with +4 on a countback. The B Grade winner was Graham Whitaker (21) with +6.
