Student diversity enriches community

The St Patrick’s team prides itself on the cultural diversity it has among its school community.

St Patrick’s is host to large communities of families from Myanmar and South Sudanese communities.

The school has also seen a rise in the addition of Sikh families which has been a wonderful addition.

It has a group of South Sudanese ladies who come together regularly to participate in sewing and other craft-related activities.

They produce some magnificent pieces that they donate back to the community.

It has been delightful to see more interaction also from the school’s Myanmar community members.

The barrier of language can always be an obstacle for any new people to the community, but they have made so many inroads as they learn and master the English language every day.

At St Patrick’s, the school has the assistance of both Myanmar and Sudanese Liaison officers, along with some of its dedicated education support officers, who work closely with these two communities in particular to ensure they receive the support they need in terms of communication with the school.

They are assisted with enrolments for both Primary and Secondary schools, excursion, swimming programs, special events days such as Mother’s and Father’s Day, school assemblies and school closure days.

The school is delighted to see the incredible richness its families bring to the St Patrick’s community, which continues to grow and thrive and enhance the wonderful diverse community.

Please make time to visit St Patrick’s Primary School at 136 Princes Highway, Pakenham. Call 5943 9000.
