Winter win in sunshine

DAMIAN Bibby took out the Winter Wade trophy at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday.
Bibby had a two-week aggregate score of +6 (+5 round 1, +1 round 2) to pocket the Wade trophy on a countback from round one leader Harry Matthews.
Matthews finished with -1 on Saturday to go with his +7 of the previous weekend.
A field of 120 players took advantage of glorious conditions, hopefully a sign of things to come, in Saturday’s par event.
The A Grade winner was Jack Henning (10) +3 over David Sharpe +2 and Doug Law and Peter Downward with +1.
Geoff Thomas (23) +4 won B Grade from Jock Granger +2 and Jim Bransgrove, Shane McKiernan and Mick Herman finished with +1.
C Grade went to David Banfield (26), the runner-up was Henk van Deuren +4 and Reg Dixon had a +3. Balls down the line went to +2 on a countback.
Nearest to pins were won by Peter Downward (14th), David Sharpe (17th) and Barry Beechey (19th).
Wednesday’s field was well down in numbers after threatening weather cast a shadow over the course but most rounds finished uninterrupted.
There were only enough players for one grade and the winner was Stuart Williams (19) with 43 points. The runner-up was Wayne Duckett 41, followed by David Leach 40 and Lindsay Robinson and Peter Phillips, both 38.
David Leach also won the pro pin on the 23rd hole.
Saturday is a stableford event and the popular Holden Scramble follows a week later.
