MORE than 350 stores, a fresh food precinct, a children’s mall and a gym will be some of the features included in the new Westfield Fountain Gate Shopping Centre.
Construction is well underway for the $320 million redevelopment. Once complete, the centre will be expanded by 43 per cent, making it the second largest shopping centre in the country.
By the end of 2012, residents will be able to shop at a fully-lined Myer, 370 specialty stores and an expanded Target and Coles at Westfield Fountain Gate in Narre Warren.
And if they don’t work up a sweat shopping at the new and improved stores, active locals can have a workout at the centre’s gym.
The existing centre will be renovated to complement the new and modern space which will feature a new Fashion Precinct in galleria-style, a Myer forecourt which will be an extension of the galleria, a new Coles Supermarket and fresh goods precinct and a new kids’ mall complete with a state-of-the art indoor and outdoor playground and updated parents facilities.
Westfield Fountain Gate Centre Manager Tim Broxham said the centre was working with existing retailers to ensure the construction had little impact on their business.
Mr Broxham said first phase of the redevelopment, which includes the new Coles Supermarket, fresh food area, gym and 40 to 50 retailers, was expected to be complete in May next year.
The remainder of the redevelopment which included the completion of Myer, was expected to be complete in October next year.
