THE Kooweerup Township Committee has written to Cardinia Shire Council asking for cigarette butt containers.
Following discussions with the council’s waste management services co-ordinator, Misty Johannsen, the committee has asked for cigarette butt containers out the front of the new Woolworths store on Station Street.
The secretary of the committee, Geoff Stokes, was also asked in the meeting on Wednesday 7 September to write to the council about a cigarette bin for the community centre in Cochrane Park.
A FEASABILITY study will look into a natural gas supply for Kooweerup. Representatives from the Gas for Kooweerup sub-committee will be invited to participate in the State Government’s feasibility assessment program. Committee members met with Federal Labor MP Greg Hunt and State Liberal MP Ken Smith on August 19 to discuss the possibility of natural gas for the town.
Ray Brown, the head of the committee, said at the township meeting that a natural gas supply for the township was not a definite despite the discussions going well.
He questioned why Kooweerup failed to qualify for previous State Government grants.
The representatives from the sub-committee were encouraged to stay in contact with Ken Smith MP.
AN advisory speed sign in Sybella Avenue in Kooweerup will be erected by late October.
The existing 60km/h sign will be replaced with a larger version to warn speeding motorists to slow down.
Geoff Stokes from the Kooweerup Township Committee spoke with a representative from VicRoads, who confirmed the ’60 ahead’ sign would be up by the end of the year.
The sign will warn motorists turning into the avenue from the South Gippsland Highway.
The existing 80km/h sign will be removed, and the 60km/h sign would be moved closer to the highway.
