Kinder fighters turn to committee solution

NINE of the hills’ most passionate fighters for the Cockatoo Ash Wednesday memorial will help shape its future.
The Ash Wednesday Memorial Committee will work with Cardinia Shire Council to take the project through design and development stages after engaging with the local community on what it wants for the McBride Street kindergarten site.
Members of the Save the old McBride Street Kindergarten Action Group voted on the nine-member panel, which will see the memorial project through to its completion in 2013.
The action group will now disband.
Chairman Alan Downing said he was pleased to see the number of “quality candidates” that nominated for the nine positions on the committee. “I wish to thank the very many people who contributed to the work of the action group,” he said.
“Without them this exciting result would not have been possible and I look forward to seeing the positive outcomes that I am sure will flow from the joint efforts of the committee and council.”
The nine members on Cockatoo’s Ash Wednesday memorial committee are Owen Deppeler, Adrian Dowell, Mary Farrow, Melissa Owen, Patsy Parnall, Donna Ratten, Graham Simpson, Carolyn Sugden and Paul Sugden.
