NARRE Warren ball-magnet, Daniel Field, 28, has strutted his stuff on football’s biggest day five times for the Magpies, for a three-two win-loss record.
Despite having played in so many deciders, Field appreciates another crack at the title, but, at the same time knows it’s important to keep a lid on things.
“Look, to tell the truth, it’s just another game,” Field said.
He then checks himself.
“I shouldn’t say it like that, it is a big game, I’ve been lucky enough to play in a few and it’s good to have another opportunity to play in one,” he said.
Field also knows it’s going to be tough to keep the ledger balanced in his favour.
“Cranbourne is a great side, we need to cover their run and somehow hold Holty and Berry. Having said that, they’ve got a lot of dangerous players, we’ll have to be on our game and hopefully get the job done,” Field said.
With the possibility of six teenagers lining up beside him on Saturday, Field can feel the enthusiasm the young players are bringing to the team.
“We’ve got a lot of young kids up and running at the moment, it’s exciting times really; a few of them will be playing in their first grand final,” Field said.
And how does the experienced campaigner keep up with his younger counterparts?
“Their legs go so fast, I don’t know where they’re going half the time, I’ll just stay in the middle and point them in the right direction,” he said.
Field’s ball winning abilities and distribution will be a key to Saturday’s result.
