Hi-tech thieves strike at school

BUNYIP Primary School students arrived at school on Monday fresh from the weekend to find their new iPads and digital cameras stolen in an early morning burglary.
Cardinia Police are investigating the break-in on Monday morning which set off the alarm at 6.30am.
The burglars escaped with two iPads and two digital cameras.
Principal Ted Lease said the doors to the new Federal Government funded library and classrooms were smashed in, with glass sprayed onto the floor.
He said it was an unfortunate break-in considering teachers had downloaded applications and spent hours programming the iPads.
“Unfortunately they took off with items that are very saleable and portable. We have an asset register so that we can claim the items but the teachers had spent between 50 and 100 hours downloading apps,” he said.
The iPads were purchased six months ago and were a hit with the kids.
“The first thing the kids said this morning was ‘Oh no, the iPads have been taken.’ They were pretty devastated,” he said.
The Cardinia CIU is investigating the break-in.
“I feel sorry for the police but at least they have some great connections with Cash Converters and the like. I’m sure the police will do everything they can,” he said.
One of the digital cameras was purchased a year ago and the other stolen in the early morning heist was only a few months old.
“We like to keep up to date with technology and give our students access to state of the art facilities,” he said.
It’s the first time the school has been burgled in eight years.
