The rezoning of the land will make way for the council to facilitate the development of a Motor Recreation and Education Park.
Councillor Collin Ross said the rezoning of the land in question was a long time coming and the facility would have many benefits for motorsport clubs in the area.
“It should be noted that this is the exact same site where the golf course was going to be moved, but now we’ll have both a golf course in its current site and a motor sports facility in town,” Cr Ross said.
CEO Garry McQuillan said the council hoped to enter into a heads of agreement with interested parties by the end of the month and start organising planning permits.
“There is still a solid six to eight months of hard work ahead of us,” Mr McQuillan said.
At his recent CEO Address, Mr McQuillan said the shire was working with local investors to achieve the $10 million project.
“It will provide at least $9 million for the local economy, at least 44 jobs and attract new industry in Cardinia,” he said.
The push for a regional motor sport facility dates back to 2006.
