More than 35 Cardinia Shire residents took part in last month’s train trip, which promoted safe travel on public transport.MORE than 35 residents attended the Cardinia Shire Council’s second seniors’ safety train trip to Warragul last month.
The trip was organised to teach them how to use public transport and promote safe travel.
Senior Sergeant Gerry Hengel from Pakenham police spoke to the residents about public transport in the area as a safe means of travel.
The council’s seniors safety officer Julia Hobbs said it was important for older residents to feel comfortable and safe when using local public transport.
“Getting residents together as a group for the trip worked really well,” she said.
“There has been a lot of positive feedback which has been great. We are thinking about holding a third trip because they’ve been extremely popular.
“The more trips we hold, the more we can convince older residents that public transport during the day is safe and convenient.”
The trip formed part of the council’s Seniors for Safety project, which is funded under a grant from the Australian Government.
