THE Southern Bluetongues claimed five wins from their seven matches this week, with the highlight being a 4-4 draw between the under-15 girls and the North End Diamonds. In the under-17 matches, a single goal from Ujum Rium was enough to claim the points against the Diamonds. In the under-17 girls, the Bluetongues’ goal was peppered by Diamonds strikers Ruby Exon and Natalie Footit, who kicked two goals each as the North End won 6-1 over Southern, with the home side’s only goal coming from the boot of Ellissah Deas. The wins on the weekend leave the under-17 boys and both under-13 sides on top of the ladder, with the Bluetongues travelling to face the Lodden Mallee Lightning in Moama.

THE girls were out in full force on Sunday at Casey Fields, with Cricket Victoria putting on the “Boy Free Zone in2CRICKET Spirit clinic” at the premier cricket ground (although the ‘boy free’ aspect was loosely enforced with a couple of young lads who rocked up).
With the Dandenong VWCA team playing Brunswick Park in the morning, and the Victoria Spirit using the venue for a practice intra-club match in the afternoon, it was a day for the girls, with the 20 youngsters meeting all the Spirit players, getting autographs and developing the cricket skills that might see them one day play at the highest level.
Di Day, female cricket officer at Cricket Victoria said: “It was fantastic to see the in2CRICKET girls from around different centres spending time with the Vic Spirit squad. The girls got the opportunity to meet their heroes and everyone walked away with great smiles on their faces.”

NOELLEDA Ah San, 14, from Endeavour Hills, is a bit of a tennis sensation. She’s already ranked number one in her age bracket in Victoria and will represent the Big V in Optus 14s Australian Teams Championships to be held at Melbourne Park. Ah San, and her team-mates Katerina Valos (Moonee Ponds) and Michelle Pits (Brighton) will face teams from across Australia in pursuit of the championship.

CASEY TigerSharks held their novice twilight meet on Sunday afternoon at the Casey ARC swimming pool, with 15 swim clubs sending the youngest brigade. There were 394 entries for swimmers ranging from eight years old to 14. The club now shifts its attention to the Victorian Qualifying Meet at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre this weekend.
The TigerSharks are also holding tryouts for any new swimmers who want to be part of the team. You can organise a tryout at either the Casey RACE or Casey ARC facility by contacing TigerSharks coach Ben Hiddlestone on 0413 513 969.

THE Cardinia Waters Bowls Club Tuesday team grabbed top spot on the ladder with a decisive victory over main rivals Cranbourne last week.
The 63 to 51 shot and 14-point victory was set up by the rink of Fiona Sampson, Anna Barrie, Pat Hutchinson and skipper Jim Barrie who won 29 shots to 14. Skipper Wendy Titcombe with Dennis Patmore, Rae Richardson and Stuart Tokely were 22 to 10 winners. Beryl McFarlane, Rita Parsons, John Cazaly and skipper Marion Stevens had one of those days when nothing went right and were defeated 12 to 27. The Tuesday competition has a break this week and the club will have special day to promote beyond blue.
The club singles championship games are being keenly contested. The final of the ladies will be contested between Marion Stevens and Pat Hutchinson and the men have some interesting matches coming up in the latter stages of the competition.
The heavy rain washed out Saturday’s pennant match against Chadstone. The clubs share the 18 points and our club remains undefeated and clear ladder leaders. The next two games are away against Mordialloc and the start of the return matches at Oakleigh.

BUNYIP’S Blaise Hodges will jet off later this week to represent Australia at the Floorball World Championships in St Gallen Switzerland.
The 18-year-old has been selected in a squad of 17, which consists of 15 field players and two goalies for the Senior Women’s Championships.
She will be away for almost four weeks before returning home on the 20 December.
Floorball is played indoors on foot and is a cross between field hockey and ice hockey; the sport is huge in Europe and is spreading its wings to our shores.
Hodges, who plays at Cardinia LiFE in Pakenham, plays centre or forward has made a rapid progression through the ranks.
“It has happened quickly, we played in the Australian Floorball Open (AFO) and then had trials and training in New South Wales, we had to nominate for the team as well,” Hodges said.
“It will be an expensive trip but Mum did get me started in the sport.”
The former Drouin College student is one of three players from Victoria to make the squad with the sport having a much bigger following in Western Australia.

THE inclement weather played havoc in some suburbs resulting in washouts for Berwick Bowling Club’s number one and number three pennant sides.
The remaining four sides battled on recording wins for three out of the four sides.
The number two side had a good win over Vermont South while the number four side had a resounding win at home over Cranbourne winning by a comfortable 32 shots.
The sixth side played at Cranbourne and struggled most of the day but battled on to take out the match by only four shots in what may prove to be a good win as far as their position on the ladder is concerned.
