HEAVY traffic and trucks are making it hard for Kooweerup residents to cross the road to reach the new supermarket complex.
Cardinia Shire Councillor Stuart Halligan will lobby VicRoads for a safer crossing near the Station Street and Moody Street junction.
He said the township committee raised the idea with him earlier this month.
“It would have to be strategically placed and properly investigated,” he said.
There is no safe crossing to the Woolworths store on Station Street and residents are battling traffic to cross the road.
With the new Woolworths a popular attraction and traffic in the township on the rise, Cr Halligan said a pedestrian crossing was a necessity before someone got hurt.
“It must cater for the children and the shop users who cross the road there,” he said.
Trucks passing through the township make it more difficult for residents crossing to get to the new complex.
“A number of people at the meeting noted congestion and pedestrian movements,” he said.
“I’ll promote the cause through channels at Vic- Roads.”
