Demand rises on quality

A YARDING of 50 less head on Wednesday last week at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, managed rises in most categories.
Similar quality to recent sales saw strong demand across the board.
Bullocks eased marginally with some bullock buyers again absent.
Heifers were popular again selling to higher trends as did steers with restockers and feedlotters prominent.
Veal saw a good rise with some very good condition present and some handy small stores selling well.
Thirty bullocks averaged 176.5 cents, back four cents but made to 195.2 cents which was two cents better.
Forty two heifers made to 206, an improvement of 18 cents. There average was 10 cents up at 181.8 cents.
One hundred and thirty two steers rose 16 cents on average to 197 cents and the top was 15 cents higher at 215 cents.
One hundred and twenty eight vealers increased 10 cents on average to 210.5 cents, with a similar top of 248 cents this sale.
A larger yarding of heavy beef cows on Thursday saw heavier weight averages, and although the average slipped three cents the per head price rose $27.
Some very light head were penned and sole to easier demand, while the heavy beef and Friesian cows sold strongly. Cows made to 176.2 cents this sale.
Twenty six bulls rose two cents to average 159.4 cents, quality was good with heavy weights evident. Bulls topped at 180 cents.
Twenty nine bullocks averaged 168.1 and also reached 180 cents.
