Seven dayer filling fast

Two good wins by the Division Two and Division Five Garfield bowling teams has put each of them well in touch with the top teams on the table.
Playing at Morwell the senior side ran out winners by 104/86. Stand out contributors in the Garfield team were Shane Oliver and Tom Cleary who bowled well, Bob Lamport who was on fire early in the match and Frank Prins who once again lead well.
Individual scores: W.Goodman, R.Shaw, S.Oliver and S.Whyte (S) won 28/18; P.Dawes, M.Shaw, T.Cleary and J.Oliver (S) lost 28/24; W.Gunton, P.Leishout, M.Lamport and S.Bassed (S) won 27/18 and F.Prins, K.Rowlands, G.Asquith and L.Pumphrey(S) won 25/22.
At home, the Division 5 team hosted neighbours and arch rivals, Longwarry. After the break, both Bill Charles’ and Ken Tomlin’s sides had comfortable wins for Garfield but it was on the third rink that a tight tussle developed. After the break things got worse and after only two further ends they were 26/14 adrift. However they clawed their way back with ones and twos to reach 27 all with two ends to go. The final score was 30/29 in favour of the Longwarry side skipped by Bob Purvis. However, overall the match was won by Garfield by 83 shots to 67.
Individual scores: R.James, J.Lenders, A.Mentiplay and K.Tomlin (S) won 29/20; S.Gemmill, K.Sainsbery, J.Rose and W.Charles (S) won 25/17 and A.Helmuth, R.Slaughter, L.Shatwell and R.Hope (S) lost 29/30.
A fight back also ensued in the Sixth Division match between Garfield and league leaders Trafalgar Park. Although Lyn Oliver’s side came back strongly to win by 25/23, Judy Pocklington’s side failed to catch the visitors and went down 16/25, with the overall score at the end of the match being 41/48 in favour of Trafalgar Park. Individual scores B.Sainsbery, D.Humphreys, P.Marriot and L.Oliver (S) won 25/23 and I.Deane, P.Humphreys, M.Lamport and J.Pocklington lost 16/25.
Earlier in the week the ladies Division Three team lost to Moe 67/73. Individual results: L.Moss, W.Rowlands, M.Lamport and R.Shaw(S) lost 22/26; I.Deane, B.Sainsbery, E.Lee and J.Pocklington (S) won 23/22 and J.Tomlin, P.Marriot, L.Asquith and L.Oliver (S) lost 18/28.
