Mikaela, who is currently doing a three month road-trip around Australia, said she was very pleased with the result, and would like to become a paramedic in the future.
“I think being school captain and doing Year 12 was a bit of a balancing act but it worked out really well,” she said.
“I’m glad I did it and learned a lot from the experience.”
College principal Paul Desmond said Mikaela’s high score was well deserved and the school was very pleased with the achievements of the whole Year 12 cohort.
“Mikaela is a particularly high achieving young woman and richly deserves those results,” he said.
“Overall, we came through with stronger results than previous years. Our students with scores in eighties and nineties have gone up in number and it’s heartening that they’ve all moved up, so we’re delighted about that.”
The school’s other high achievers include Cassandra Mortimer, 96.85, Karen Alarcon, 96.46, Blake Mazzitelli, 96.45, Daragh Quinless, 96.15 and Justin Hester, 95.05.
Sam Cotroneo was Lakeside Lutheran College’s dux for 2011.
The school captain will be going to Monash University to pursue a Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems.
School principal Peter Miller said it was a privilege to have Sam as part of the school.
“Throughout his schooling at Lakeside, Sam’s academic achievements have always been complemented by his positive role modeling as a mature community-spirited young man,” he said.
“Our whole school community congratulates him and wishes him well as he ventures into the next phase of what will undoubtedly see him making a valuable contribution to society.”
Berwick’s Brittany Van Der Lugt was the dux for Haileybury Girls College, receiving an ATAR score of 99.85.
A total of 25 maximum study scores were achieved at the school in a range of subjects and 10 per cent of students scored above a 98 ATAR score.
Haileybury principal Derek Scott described the results as outstanding and a reflection of Haileybury’s unique three-year VCE program.
“These results demonstrate a strong value-added performance as well as a remarkable list of very high achievers,” he said.
“It has been a great pleasure to see the class of 2011 involve themselves so strongly in the broad range of school and social justice activities during the year. They are a well-rounded group of young women and men.”
