Pelican Pete and Mr Percival almost full

THE Garfield Golf Club held its first medal day for the year on Saturday and with the air a little thinner the balls were travelling long and far.
However the real fun started on the greens with tricky pin placements proving a handful for even the most skilful of golfers. Pelican Pete and Mr Percival (the four and five putt birds) were engraved with more names on the weekend and space is quickly running out for anymore.
Medal winner was B Grade player Mick Howsin (18) with a nett 64 and he also tied the best B Grade gross score with Artie Koopman on 82. Mick Neylen (8) cleaned up A Grade winning both the gross and handicap events with 74 gross, 66 nett. In C Grade, John Dineen had the best gross score with 90 while George Vitiritti (26) took out the handicap event with a nett 67.
Balls down the line went to A.Koopman 65, R.Keay, G.Scholes and G.Kelly 66, R.Johnson and L.Milner 68, J.Dineen, R.Gough, C.Watson, R.Calderara, S.Szybkowski, P.Kaye, D.Kerr and S.Clark 69.
Nearest the pins went to P.King (fourth), G.Mclure (eighth and ninth), G.Noonan (11th), J.Blair (14th) and R.Norton on the 16th. P.Skinner was nearest with his second shot on the seventh.
Shane Szybkowski and Angus Mckillop had eagles on the first and 17th hole respectively.
Ladies winner was Meredith Bowers (20) with a nett 72.
This Saturday sees the playing of the rescheduled Leo Fallon event and a Stableford overflow.

Mark Kelly (16) was the winner with 40 points from runners-up Peter Skinner and Stephen Wallace on 39 points. Down the line balls went to G.Roberts and B.Cousin on 38 points with B.Potter, R.Coutts, N.Goldsworthy and S.Adkin all coming in with 37 points.

Nearest the pins went to S.Male (fourth), T.Franklin (eighth), J.Sanderson (ninth), T.Elliot (11th and 14th) and P.Skinner on the 16th. Secret nine winner was P.Skinner.

Junior pennant begins this Sunday with some new faces making an appearance.
The team consists of Dean McNamara, Peter Van Der Horst, Ben Powell, Michael Henderson and Wade Haysom with Jackson Wade the emergency.
The Garfield members would like to wish the boys all the best through the pennant season.
Junior player six-year-old Ben Powell qualified second in the Under 12s V Golf shoot-out to be played at the Spring Valley Golf Club.
Congratulations Ben on this achievement.

Shane Male had an eagle on the first hole.
The first round of the Graham Ovens Match Play was held. The top eight players from the club championships compete in an 18 hole knockout match play event with the final to be played over 36 holes.
Congratulations to Steve Kohut and Shane Szybkowski on advancing through to the semi finals. Steve with a 4/3 win over Daniel Baxter and Shane with a 6/4 win over Chris Davies.
