Redbacks sign Holden

HAMPTON Park has appointed John Holden as its new senior coach after Tony Henwood left the club last week.
Holden will be the third senior coach for the Redbacks this off-season with Clint Evans and Henwood leaving the club since their elimination final loss to Pakenham last season.
Hampton Park president Chris Simpson said the club and Henwood didn’t mesh on a lot of strategies and the split was mutual.
“Tony wasn’t a good fit and we didn’t really see eye to eye on a lot of things,” Simpson said.
“We had a few dramas withhim and we decided together thatwe should part ways and godifferent directions.” Holden comes to the club as a former player and Simpson said after Holden’s family and work commitments lessened, he was able to come on board.
“We’ve been trying to approach John for a couple of years,” Simpson said. “He’s a very knowledgeable footballer and played a lot of footy at Hampton Park.
“We’ve been at him for a couple of years, but with his work and family it’s been very hard.
“He was our first choice when Clint Evans left and we’re very happy with the choice and we can move forward with John Holden at the reins.”
James Van Elewoud has been named as Holden’s playing-assistant coach.
