Prices bounce back after previous slump

BOTH Wednesday and Thursday sales at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul, last week saw prices make a good comeback after the previous week’s minor slump.
Condition was similar for both yardings with good quality heifers attracting restockers and top range vealers lifting their top price by three cents.
Bulls were slightly lighter but demand stronger, as were bullocks and steer categories.
Cows on Thursday remained firm on recent sales as good demand continues.
Wednesday saw 78 bullocks rise nine cents to 166.2 cents and repeated last week’s top of 185 cents.
Forty four heifers jumped 32 cents to average 163.4 cents, topping at 210 cents.
Ninety one steers averaged three cents up at 178.1 cents, to make a top of 190 cents.
Four hundred and twenty seven veal remained firm at 206.9 cents, but lifted the top price to 242.6 cents.
On Thursday 23 bulls topped at 179.2 cents, and averaged six cents better at 148.6 cents.
Thirteen bullocks averaged similar to last week at 160 cents and made to 168 cents.
Three hundred and thirty four cows were one cent up at 131.9 cents with processors paying to 162.6 cents, while restockers paid to 209.2 cents for good quality heifers.
