BRADY Quinn is continuing his rise through the soccer ranks in Victoria, gaining state selection in the Skilleroos National Championship later this year.
Quinn, 12, from Narre Warren South, impressed Victorian Skilleroos selectors in a series of trials and has stood out playing for the South East Cougars in the Victorian Champions League (VCL).
The young soccer prodigy also gained a full scholarship in the Football Federation Australia Skilleroos Scholarship Program – an achievement reserved for only the best players in the country.
Quinn was “elated” to be picked to represent his state in the Under 13s Skilleroos following a long selection process, first playing with club side Beaumaris and region representative team the South East Cougars.
“I played for Beaumauris and played for South East Cougars,” Quinn said.
“I tried out for that (Cougars) and got picked. I had to play a season for Cougars and the selectors got me to trial for the Victorian team.
“(I) had to trial about 10 times and I made it.
“I was shocked and surprised to get in. I couldn’t believe it – I was so happy to get in.”
His next aim is big, but that’s the only way he knows how to play his soccer.
“I’d like to make the All-Australian team, selected from the best players from the competition, and also win the best player award for the Skilleroos,” Quinn said.
His South East Cougars and Beaumaris commitments will end soon as he focuses purely on the Skilleroos and higher.
It caps off a successful soccer year for Quinn, who represented the Victorian 12-and-under schoolboy soccer team in the national championships in September.
