Vealer quality rises

SUPPLY lifted and the quality was good and improved for the vealer run this week at VLE Pakenham.
Competition was strong over all categories as all the usual buyers competed.
About 1700 young cattle and 900 grown steers and bullocks were penned in the dearer market.
Vealers improved in quality and improved in value by 15 cents to 20 cents per kilogram.
The steer portion reached 263.6 cents for medium weights and most averaged 220 cents to 240 cents per kilogram.
The heavy weights ranged from 206 cents to 239 cents for B muscle.
The better supplied medium weight heifers sold from 182 cents to 255 cents for the C2 and C2s.
Yearling trade steers were six cents to 11 cents dearer with the heavy end averaging 207 cents per kilogram after reaching 236 cents per kilogram.
The medium weight feeder steers averaged 201 cents. Trade heifers sold from 171 cents to 236 cents for the better muscled.
Grown steers mouthed zero to two teeth reached 208 cents while older grown steers averaged 192 cents per kilogram.
The heavier bullocks lifted three cents to four cents as did the grown steers to receive 176 cents to 200 cents per kilogram.
Manufacturing steers were mainly heavy weights and ranged from 149 cents to 178 cents per kilogram.
