SAVE for a last-ditch passing-manoeuvre against him on the final turn, Upper Beaconsfield rising star Jack Le Brocq ticked all the boxes at round six of the Formula Ford Championship at Sandown Raceway.
After claiming victory in the second race of the meet earlier that morning, Le Brocq led the third and deciding 12-lap race on Sunday for most of the contest, but couldn’t hold out Garry Jacobson who overtook him diving down the inside to claim the major points for the race and the round victory.
Le Brocq takes his season tally to 302 points to lead the championship and extend his lead to 50 points over Matthew Hart with only two rounds – Bathurst and Winton – left in the season.
“It wasn’t too bad,” Le Brocq said about the Sandown round. “50 point lead with 120 points up for offer in the last two rounds, hopefully get it wrapped up in the last round.
“All in all a good weekend and good to get the win.”
To put a little salt in the wound, Le Brocq was given a nudge by eventual third place finisher Shae Davies which caused some damage to the nose-cone of his car.
“It was disappointing,” Le Brocq said in regard to the final turn pass and damage to his car. “Almost there, playing conservative and trying to get all the points we could get, but didn’t fight it too hard, on the exit the other guy hit me, but that happens sometimes.”
The next challenge for Le Brocq is the world’s best track – Bathurst.
“Bathurst no one really knows – it’s the first time the Formula Fords with the new engines have been up there,” Le Brocq said.
“Winton is one of the home test tracks so feeling pretty confident about that.”
