Brookers in the hunt

GEMBROOK played Beaconsfield at home in a C-grade game shaping up for a close finish this week.

C GRADE

Beaconsfield won the toss and batted but the Brookers got an exceptional start, the first three wickets falling for only 15 runs.
Matt Failla’s tight bowling brought 3/13, six maidens coming with his nine overs.
He was assisted by Grant Whytcross who also bowled brilliantly with 3/21 and Rick Atkinson took 2/31.
Things were looking good for the Brookers at 7/43, but they lost their way a little in the field and the Beaconsfield tail wagged, Madison Andrews making 49 and Jarrod Williams 24. Beaconsfield was all out for 148 in the 49th over.
The Brookers then had 18 overs at the crease and at stumps were 2/28.

E GRADE

Gembrook played at Officer, which won the toss and chose to bat.
Gembrook started well and had Officer 2/16.
Officer than steadied with a partnership of 31 before being 5/63.
Officer steadied, Graeme Cooper (55) holding the Bullants together until the 40th over.
The Brookers finally had Officer all out for 157 in the 50th over.
For the Brookers Timothy Grey took 3/20, Andrew Shipp 3/41 and Daniel Fry 2/13.
The Brookers then had to face 17 overs at the crease with the figure at stumps being 1/141.
Fry made a brilliant 45 before he was caught.
Shipp again proved himself all-rounder with a well compiled and gutsy 74 not out.
Timothy Gray, in his first season of senior cricket, was 5 not out.

F GRADE

Gembrook played Clyde at Mountain Road Reserve and put Clyde in.
Wickets fell steadily and at the tea break Clyde was 5/53 before reaching 9/142 at the close. Best of the bowlers were Kade Bridley with 3/27, Will Davis with 3/29 and Jy Berryman with 1/10.
Gembrook’s innings lost its way and the Brookers were all out for 77 in the 23rd over. Berryman (23) was top score. Will David made 17 and Garth Lees 11.
