Kooweerup wilts before Crows

A GAME he would rather forget was coach Peter Bastinac’s thought after the Demons went down by 53 points to a disciplined Longwarry side at the weekend.
After starting with four quick goals, Kooweerup wilted before the pressure of Longwarry and never got back into the game despite battling hard after quartertime.
The better players for Kooweerup were Rod Hoober, who was thrown into the centre, Scott Morrison, who tried to lift his teammates all day, and big Adam Biszko, who played all over the ground in an attempt to stem the flow of Longwarry attacks.
Defenders Matt Cameron and Ben Miller tried hard and Josh Evans, used as an onballer, battled all day. Daniel Crowley and Morrison finished with three goals apiece and onballers John Stanley and Peter Doll snared two each. With the finals fast approaching, the Demons need to get back on track quickly. Bunyip this week will be keen to claim a big scalp before the season ends.
Scores: Longwarry 21.12.138 d Kooweerup 13.8.86.

RESERVES

Kooweerup tried hard all day but in the end did not have enough guns firing to quell the experienced Longwarry on Saturday. There were good signs for the Demons, several players coming back from injury and gaining valuable match time in the leadup to the finals. Mark Byrne marked strongly and finished the day with four of the six goals.
Centre halfback Ashley Binding was solid all day and Cameron McPhillips played his best game for the year, boosting his chances for a finals berth. Senior fringe players Steven Greaves and Duncan Caig tried hard all day and Carl Bertuna, returning from injury, marked well and gave the Demons a target at centre halfforward.
Scores: Longwarry 10.8.68 d Kooweerup 6.6.42.
