THE Berwick Inn has been sold to ALE Property Group for $15 million.
ALE now has 106 pubs with a value of about $686 million.
Berwick Village Chamber of Commerce president Michael Hall said he saw the Berwick icon’s resale as more a reflection of the strength of the hotel industry in Australia than property values in Berwick.
The property is to be leased to the ALE group on similar terms to the existing portfolio, including a lease until November 2028. The Berwick Inn Hotel was first established as a pub in 1857 and has been significantly extended.
In recent years it has been refurbished throughout and now is one of southeast Melbourne’s landmark pubs.
ALE managing director Andrew Wilkinson said The Berwick Inn was a great hotel that ALE was pleased to add to its portfolio.
“It is a quality property with a longterm lease to a creditworthy tenant.”
